Project Description

Project Description

The goal was to enhance the selling experience for casual sellers on eBay by simplifying the listing process, which was long and tedious, causing many users to abandon it before completing their listings.

Timeline

From explorations to final designs in 8 weeks while working with multiple projects at the same time

Background

The existing selling form on eBay was long and tedious, particularly for casual sellers. As a result, many casual sellers were abandoning the process before completing their listings. While the form worked reasonably well for other user groups, it proved to be error-prone and discouraging for casual sellers.

This category details the step-by-step approach taken during the project, including research, planning, design, development, testing, and optimization phases.

Research & Planning

Conducted market research to identify existing scheduling challenges and user preferences. Defined target audience segments and outlined key features based on user needs and market trends.

Design & Prototyping

Collaborated with designers to create intuitive user interfaces and interactive prototypes. Iteratively refined designs based on user feedback to enhance usability and visual appeal.

Implementation

Leveraged agile development methodologies to build the scheduling app from the ground up. Prioritized feature development based on user feedback and technical feasibility. Implemented AI algorithms to analyze user behavior and optimize scheduling recommendations.

Testing & Optimization

Conducted rigorous testing across various devices and platforms to ensure compatibility and performance. Gathered user feedback through beta testing and iteratively optimized the app based on usability metrics and user satisfaction.

UX Research Findings

UX Research Findings

UX Research Findings

Together with the UX Research Team, we devised five different test scenarios of varying complexity to identify user pain points. We conducted these sessions to uncover the specific challenges casual sellers were facing.

The research revealed several key pain points:

  • Length of the Listing Process: Sellers found the listing process too long and cumbersome.

  • Confusion Over Selling Decisions: Users struggled with decisions regarding categories, shipping information, and pricing.

  • Impatience of Casual Sellers: This user group typically has very little patience and prefers a quick and straightforward selling process.

  • Mandatory Fields: The form required many mandatory fields, which further slowed down the process.

Reframing the Challenge

Reframing the Challenge

Reframing the Challenge

How can selling be less confusing and more efficient?

  • Casual sellers prefer a quick and easy listing process.

  • They want to spend less time posting a listing and sell their item instantly.

  • Example: On Craigslist, sellers just post pictures with details and expect to sell within a day.

To improve their experience, the team decided to start with one product category (electronics) to test the response.
